Rather than post piecemeal on the exciting employment law news of the day we’ve decided to take another approach that we hope will be more informative for the lay reader of this blog. From today, we’ll investigate the main topics of employment law and lay them out for you, the reader, so that you can properly inform yourself of your rights in the workplace and when they may be being infringed. As we embark on this journey through the murky depths and mountainous peaks of employment law it’s only fair to inform you of what we may encounter (at first):

  1. Discrimination
  2. Unfair dismissal
  3. The contract of employment

The first issue that we’ll be dealing with is therefore that of discrimination in the workplace (although it should be noted that the law equally applies to other areas such as the provision of services and functions). We’ll therefore have a look at the following:

  1. The history of discrimination law
  2. The current framework of the law
  3. The ‘protected characteristics’
  4. The types of discrimination
  5. ‘Prohibited conduct’

So, sit back, relax and (hopefully) educate yourself.
